Polarteknik receives EcoVadis Bronze rating for sustainability performance
Polarteknik receives EcoVadis Bronze rating for sustainability performance ranking in Top 21% among over 150,000 rated companies globally.
What is Ecovadis?
Ecovadis is a system to provide reliable, globally recognized sustainability ratings and insights, enabling all companies to reduce risk, drive improvement and accelerate sustainability and positive impact on our planet and society. Ecovadis has assessed companies in over 185 countries based on four categories of performance; Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.
EcoVadis has grown to become the world’s largest and most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, creating a global network of more than 150,000+ rated companies. The EcoVadis overall score (0-100) reflects the quality of the company’s sustainability management system at the time of the assessment based on documents submitted to their portal.
The EcoVadis sustainability recognition levels are based upon the percentile rank of the company’s EcoVadis score, and a minimum evaluation theme score. The medals’ criteria are reviewed periodically.
How Polarteknik compares to other companies?
Polarteknik was evaluated January 2025 to be in the top 21% of all the rated companies. That in turn means that Polarteknik is higher than or equal to the score of 79 percent of all companies rated by EcoVadis. The percentile rank is calculated at the time of score publication. That awards a rating of BRONZE which is fourth best in the rating system. A minimum of 45 is already a good performance in the EcoVadis methodology.
The scoring average evolves over years as more and more companies are rated in the system and companies improve their management systems and related documentation. As and example in 2022 rating 67 points was enough for gold level and today in 2025 it is bronze.
The criteria for scorecards last published is as follows:
- Platinum – top 1%
- Gold – top 5%
- Silver – top 15% (this is 10 percentage points harder than in 2022)
- Bronze – top 35% (this is 15 percentage points harder than in 2022)
In most of the evaluated areas Polarteknik has more strengths than improvement areas.
In three areas Environment and Labor&Human rights and Ethics the scores are outstanding. In sustainable procurement there is more room for improvement although the score is good and well above average of the rated companies.

Polarteknik is pleased that its persistent work in developing the operations and products to be more sustainable has been recognized with the EcoVadis bronze medal. To be included in the top 21% of all companies is a great achievement for us and proves the strong commitment towards sustainability for the external and internal stakeholders.
Sustainability is an important part of Polarteknik strategy, and the company aims for being the most sustainable solutions provider in railway rolling stock. In the past few years Polarteknik has invested in developing its sustainability practices. Product sustainability is getting harder to improve on because we are virtually toxin free, and recyclability often exceed 99% in projects.
In its Corporate governance Polarteknik will continue to focus on working conditions, mitigating climate impact, ensuring safety, diversity and well-being of its personnel and other stakeholders and finding sustainable solutions to not only in production and procurement, but also with strong life-cycle thinking. In many of the processes we just need to document things better when good processes are already in place. Obviously, Finland in one of the worlds most equal, safe and labour friendly societies in the world already. Ethics, trust and sustainability are important guiding principles in all our group companies work.
Participation in EcoVadis also allows for transparency to the whole value chain as it enables Polarteknik customers and suppliers alike to monitor sustainability performance and manage sustainability risks and understand the requirements.
